NBA Finals Preview

The NBA Finals kicks off tomorrow with the Dallas Mavericks taking on the Miami Heat. The Heat have managed to get to the Finals when nearly everyone has written them off at one point over the course of the season, while the Mavericks were simply not given a chance to make it. This is a rematch of the 2006 Finals where the Heat pulled off 4 straight games to take it 4-2. Since 2006, the teams have changed dramatically. The only remaining pieces left from this series are D Wade, Haslem, Dirk and the Jet.

In my eyes, there are 2 things that will decide this series. The first thing is the 3 point shooting from the Dallas Mavericks. At different times on the court, the Mavericks will have Dirk, Jet, Kidd, Peja and Chandler. Jason Kidd and Peja Stojakovic are 2 of the top 4 in made 3 pointers in the history of the NBA. So if the Heat close them out, there is Dirk and Jet just waiting to take advantage of defensive errors from the Heat, which are few and far between.

The second thing that will decide this series is the play of Lebron James. He is simply the best player in the NBA, HANDS DOWN.  It is not even an argument, he is just the best all around player to have played the game for years. Even Scottie Pippen admitted he is a better player than MJ so that has to mean something. If Lebron can get his 25, 8 and 8 average this series the Heat should win in 5. If the Mavericks can force Bosh to prove he can knock down the 18 footer consistently and force Bibby, Chalmers and Miller to play a support role from the perimeter, than the Mavericks can win this series easily. Marion and Stevenson proved that they are still quality defenders, stopping Durant when it counted, but they will soon discover that Lebron and Durant are very different players.

Given these factors, it is my opinion that the Heat should win this series, but it depends on what Spoelstra decides to do on Dirk. If he keeps Ilgauskas and Dampier inactive and relies just on Haslem, Bosh and Anthony to guard Dirk and Chandler, then they will lose. They need bodies that can contest and double effectively. Lebron has guarded Iguodala, Pierce and Rose when it mattered and don't be surprised if he shuts down Dirk when it matters as well.

Lebron James MVP, with the Heat winning in 6.
